Breakfast of Champions

It's Saturday morning and breakfast is calling. Turn on NPR (national panic radio) and find out how much gloom and doom they can pack in before the Car Guys or Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. Let's try our own stimulus plan and make a nice cheap healthy breakfast.
Oatmeal is good, oatmeal is wise. Sticks with you all morning and gives you just the right amount of smug when you tell someone what you had for breakfast. " No thanks, I don't want that mid morning Cinnabun, I made oatmeal". Try it, it feels good.
Cooking it in the oven keeps it from sticking to the bottom and it will not be as mushy. You also get the added benefit of warming your kitchen a bit and preheating your bowls. Hot food, hot plates.
Compare the cost of oatmeal to a box of adult style healthy boxed cereal and its not even close.

Oatmeal for Two
oven at 400 degrees
use a flat wide pan
cost is about a dollar!

3 cups water
2 T brown sugar

pinch salt

1 shake of cayenne pepper (only if like it sweet and hot in the morning)
Bring everything to a boil and add

1 1/2 cups of Old Fashioned Oats

stir and put in oven with no lid for 10 - 12 minutes or until liquid is mostly absorbed then add
2 shakes of cinnamon
1/3 cup or so of golden raisins
you can substitute any dried or fresh fruit you want.

Put back in the oven for a minute or two along with your serving bowls so they are nice and warm.
I add a little milk to mine and even like a little bit of the Pomegranate Jam on top. My wife like neither. She is still happy to do the dishes after a big bowl of oats.
